01:49 pm - I suck at song-writing.
Okay, so when I quit my job I vowed I would devote all my time to getting some sort of music project off the ground. Sounds very good in theory, but in practice I'm driving myself a bit bonkers.
I think I'm stuck in a creative rut.
It's not that I cant come up with songs, because I have been, it's just that they all sound the same. A couple of years ago I fell back in love with guitar because I learned how fun and challenging learning rockabilly guitar is. But because that's all I've been playing for two years now, whenever I pick up the guitar to write something it all sounds inadvertantly 'billy and I cant help it.
"Lets make this a little darker" I say to myself, but then the songs all come out sounding like dark slow western. In E.
"Okay, less open chords (I've always liked that distorted open-chord sound a-la Nick 13 from Tiger Army), I'll throw in some power chords" but now theyre all open-chord westerny chorus' with horrorpunky powerchordy verses.
"Well, I'll speed it up, that'll make it more fun"
And now it's gotten to the point where I've got two semi-songs written in which I've set the metronome to the highest setting (dont these things go any faster, Sven?), ha! I'm loving the metronome though. I've always been crap at playing with a band, and it's already helped me settle down and learn to play with a beat, as opposed to the child with ADHD I usually am on guitar.
I would really love having another guitarist to work with so we could write bits over the top of eachother, and I could learn how to write songs in different ways. So if anyone knows anyone who plays guitar and would like to, err, play with me (with the eventual result being a band of sorts), please let me know!
I think I'm going to set myself a time limit of three weeks. No matter what I've come up with by then I'm going to have Dani and Sven come over and we're going to play it anyway, dammit!
In other news, plans for the trip to Europe are under way. My mum got really excited and has been looking up flights and tours for us, but so far my idea of 'planning' really has just involved looking up WGT pics on the 'net.

hehe, just halve your timing and make the metronome go slower.... Record something and send it to me. I want to hear =)

We'll have to start speaking deutsch now so I can remember 12 years worth of it before we go.
Yeah, imagine the awkward silences sitting around with my family, haha.
